Rishikesh sits in a gorge where the Ganga is still a fast, cold mountain river. It is the yoga capital of the world, a pilgrimage town, and the adventure sports hub of north India.
The defining suspension bridges connecting the ashram-dense banks. Laxman Jhula connects Tapovan with Swarg Ashram. Ram Jhula connects Swarg Ashram with Parmarth Niketan. The hour between 4 and 5 PM, as aarti preparations begin, is incredibly atmospheric.
Note: Laxman Jhula is currently closed for repairs; the nearby Jhoola Pul (Jonk) serves pedestrians.

The 405 km drive takes 7-8 hours via Ambala and Roorkee. The final 25 km from Haridwar to Rishikesh through the gorge is the most beautiful section of the journey.
A 7 AM departure arrives in Rishikesh by 2-3 PM, with ample time to reach the Parmarth Niketan evening aarti. A 10 PM night departure arrives at most ashrams by 6-7 AM for the first morning session.
The Shambhu dhaba strip at the Punjab-Haryana border is the standard midpoint break. From Ambala, the route turns east on NH-73 toward the Ganga basin.
Roorkee (Upper Ganges Canal) is the last flat-land town. Approaching Haridwar, the Shivalik hills appear. Driver uses the Haridwar bypass to avoid city congestion, unless you request a stop at Har Ki Pauri.
The final 25 km runs along the east bank of the Ganga through the Rajaji buffer zone. The driver navigates the town traffic to deliver you to your specific ashram, camp, or hotel on either bank.

Rishikesh is divided by the Ganga. Vehicle access rules are strict, and ashrams can be hard to find. A driver who knows the town changes the arrival experience entirely.

The famous Ganga Aarti begins 20 mins after sunset. If requested, we time the Pathankot departure to arrive at the Ram Jhula ghat exactly 30 minutes before it starts, ensuring you get a good spot.
Rafting camps between Shivpuri and Byasi are accessed by unsigned dirt tracks off the highway. Our drivers know these access points and deliver you directly to your riverside camp.
