McLeod Ganj (1,970m) is a dense ridge town holding the Tibetan government-in-exile, world-class trekking bases, and the most concentrated Tibetan cultural experience available in India.
The Main Temple of the 14th Dalai Lama. The dawn Kora (circumambulation path) is the most quietly powerful thing to do in McLeod Ganj, walked clockwise with prayer wheels and views of the Kangra valley below.

Triund (2,828m) is a stunning 9km trail offering face-to-face views of the Dhauladhar wall. Bhagsu Nag (3km from square) offers an ancient Shiva temple, a waterfall, and cafes dramatically perched on rock ledges.
Dharamkot (2km above McLeod) is the yoga and meditation retreat hub (Tushita, Vipassana). Naddi offers the single best unobstructed panoramic viewpoint of the Kangra valley and Dhauladhar chain.
18 km before Dharamshala on the approach road. A massive stone fortification on a rock spur. A highly recommended 45-minute stop on your drive up from Pathankot.

Pickup from Railway Station, Bus Stand, or hotel. A 7-8 AM departure reaches McLeod Ganj by 10:30 AM — early enough to walk the kora before midday crowds, and the Dhauladhar is clearest at this hour.
Optional 45-min detour to the spectacular Kangra Fort. Kangra or Lower Dharamshala are the last reliable ATMs before McLeod Ganj (where ATMs often run out during peak season).
The 9 km road from Lower Dharamshala to McLeod climbs 500 metres. At a specific corner, the full Dhauladhar wall suddenly fills the windscreen. Driver knows to slow down here.

Oct-Nov: Finest overall; clear skies, excellent Triund trekking. Feb-Apr: Losar (Tibetan New Year), rhododendron bloom, white peaks. May-June: Warm and busy. July-Sept: Monsoon; lush green but upper trails are muddy.
ATMs in McLeod Ganj frequently have queues or cash shortages in peak season. Carry ₹3,000-5,000 cash from Lower Dharamshala or Kangra. Jio/Airtel work well in town but drop above Galu Temple on the Triund trail.
Open to all faiths. Dress modestly (covered shoulders and knees), remove shoes at the entrance. Photography is permitted in the courtyard but not inside the main prayer hall. Walk the Kora clockwise.
No advance permit needed for the day trek to Triund meadow. Camping requires a nominal fee at Galu Temple. Carry a warm layer (temp drops sharply at the top) and plenty of water. 3-4 hours up, 2-2.5 hours down.
